Reader's Reflection

Bookstores and Getting Lost in Wonder

Bookstores have always felt a little different to me.

They don't try to tell you exactly where to go.

Instead, they give you places to begin—featured tables, staff recommendations, a display that catches your eye—and then they let your own curiosity take over.

Maybe that's why they're so calming.

You don't have to find the fastest route.

You can simply wander, pause, and discover.

Sometimes getting a little lost is part of the experience.

Or, more simply:

I was walking through a bookstore today and realized something.

The featured tables aren't there to tell you what to read.

They're more like points of interest.

Your own interests become the compass.

The bookstore simply gives you places to explore.
